SAN ANTONIO -- The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team closed out its annual Alamo Irish Classic tournament with a 4-0 victory against Eastern Michigan at Wolff Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Cardinals won the Alamo Irish Classic, securing two victories over Eastern Michigan and a 15-7 win over Notre Dame. Their lone loss of the weekend was a 2-1 result against Notre Dame on Friday night.
NOTABLES
- Aaron Celestino held the Eagles scoreless through seven innings pitched. He allowed just three hits while striking out four on only 82 pitches.
- Lee Thomas reached base in all four at-bats, recording three hits, a double, a run and a walk.
- Ryan Gonzalez, Eddy Gonzalez and Jordan Thompson each contributed with two hits.
- With Bergeron's sacrifice fly, the Cardinals now have nine sac flies on the season, which leads the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the bottom of the second inning, the Cardinals took the lead when
Kyle Bergeron scored as
Jordan Thompson reached on a fielder's choice, giving UIW a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth frame, the Cardinals added to their lead. Thompson grabbed his second RBI of the day with a single that drove in
Lee Thomas as UIW took a 2-0 advantage.
In the bottom of the seventh, Bergeron hit a sacrifice fly to score
Ryan Flores.
Eddy Gonzalez then singled to bring home
Christian Rodriguez, extending the Cardinals' lead to 4-0.

The Cardinals travel to College Station, Texas, to face Texas A&M on Feb. 27. First pitch at Blue Bell Park is set for 6:30 p.m. (CT).
