SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word athletics department had 37 student-athletes walk across the stage to receive their degrees on Saturday, Dec. 14, at the 2019 fall commencement, officially becoming UIW alumni.

The graduating class of Cardinals were led by football, who had 15 student-athletes celebrate the affair. These seniors were part of the first UIW football team to win the Southland Conference Championship (2018) and earn a trip to the FCS Playoffs.

Three women's soccer student-athletes –
Ana Campa,
Taylor Husfeld and
Emani Stewart – graduated after guiding their team to the first Southland Conference Tournament berth in program history, while
Nolan Ellis,
Cody Moos and
Tyler Perez helped the baseball earn its first trip to the Southland Conference Tournament as well.

Sean Brophy was the sole Cardinal to receive a master's degree, graduating with a Master of Business Administration.

"I'm extremely proud of this graduating class of Cardinals," said interim Athletics Director
Richard Duran. "To see our student-athletes not only excelling in athletics, but also meeting the university's core value of education, is exciting. These student-athletes are Cardinals for life, and I look forward to seeing what they accomplish next."

Baseball (3), men's basketball (1), men's fencing (1), men's soccer (1), men's track (3), softball (2), volleyball (3), women's fencing (1), women's swim (1) and women's track (3) were also represented among the graduates.
