SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word's volleyball staff was busy during the offseason and it paid off. Head coach
Samantha Dabbs Thomas announced that the team has signed five players for the the 2020 season.
The five incoming players are: Annamarie Alvarez, Jacqueline Arrington, Taylor Henderson, Zoe Menendez and Allison Palmi.
"This is an exciting class with so much experience and talent that I am looking forward to them getting here and jumping right in!" Dabbs Thomas said.
Annamarie Alvarez | MB/OPP | 6'2"
Dabb Thomas on Alvarez: "Annamarie brings great size to our team. She is a very versatile player where she can play on the right side and in the middle. Anna is a really good blocker and has a fast arm. Our offense is perfect for her because she loves to run a faster tempo. She brings a lot of experience to the team and I am looking forward to coaching her and watching her develop. She loves the game and shows her passion out on the court."
Jacqueline Arrington | OH/MB | 5'11"
Dabbs Thomas on Arrington: "We saw Jacqueline at a club tournament and were really impressed with her versatility. She plays all across the front row and is always looking to learn and develop. She is eager to learn more about the game every time she steps out onto the court. We had her come to our summer camp this past July and we were so impressed with how much her game had grown. Jacqueline is extremely athletic and is going to be a huge addition to our offense."
Taylor Henderson | MB | 5'11"
Dabbs Thomas on Henderson: "Taylor is a huge get for us! I love that she has two years of experience already at the collegiate level. She runs a faster tempo in the middle and is going to adjust to our system nicely. She plays with a lot of heart and passion. She is a great teammate because she celebrates her teammate's success more than her own and she is a great team player!"
Zoe Menendez | RS | 5'10"
Dabbs Thomas on Menendez: "I am so excited to have Zoe join us next season. With her being a lefty, she is going to play on the right side for us. She is a fast twitch player and runs a faster tempo to the pin and with her left hand she has that advantage that I'm looking forward to seeing her develop even more! Zoe is a team player and always smiling she is going to bring so much energy to our team!"
Allison Palmi | OH | 5'7"
Dabbs Thomas on Palmi: "I have known Palmi for a long time when she started coming to my summer camps back in Florida at my previous school. From a very young age, she impressed me with how big she plays even though she is considered 'small' for the game of volleyball in the front row. She is a really strong defender and has a great eye for the game. She comes from a volleyball family so it's in her blood. This kid plays with so much passion and hear that she hates losing I think more than I do! She will be a great addition to our program as a strong outside/ds option."
