HOUSTON, TX – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team delivered a commanding sweep over Houston Christian University on Saturday afternoon, capping its regular season slate with a dominant showing at the Sharp Gym.
Set 1: UIW 25, HCU 21
The opening set was controlled by the Cardinals from start to finish. UIW jumped out to a 9–3 lead and never looked back, stretching the margin to as many as eight points at 16–8. Kyla Malone fueled the early momentum and sealed the frame with her fifth kill of the set, giving the Cardinals a 1–0 match advantage.
Set 2: UIW 25, HCU 14
The Cardinals carried their momentum into the second frame, using a 6–0 scoring run to build a 16–8 advantage. UIW extended the lead to as many as ten points before a Husky attack error sealed the set, giving the Cardinals a 2–0 edge in the match.
Set 3: UIW 25, HCU 20
UIW jumped out to an early 10–4 lead before the Huskies chipped away to cut the deficit to 13–12. The Cardinals responded with a pivotal 5–0 run, creating the separation they needed to regain control and close out the match.
The Cardinals had three players finish with double-digit kills, as Finley Evans, Kitana Tu'ufuli, and Kyla Malone each tallied 10 to lead all attackers. Setter Calissa Allison paced the offense with a match-high 33 assists while adding eight digs, and Ashton Rogers anchored the back row with a team-best 19 digs.
UIW will face Lamar in the first round of the Southland Conference Tournament on Friday, November 21, in Commerce, Texas. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
