AUSTIN, Texas – A busy week of track and field is ahead for UIW, as the Cardinals will compete in three events this weekend: the 90th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, the Texas State Bobcat Invitational, and the Trinity Invitational.
OPENING BLOCKS
A record 7,700 participants, which includes both collegians and high schoolers, will take part in the Texas Relays, which span March 30-April 1 at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The Cardinals will also take part in the Bobcat Invitational from March 30-April 1 at the Texas State Track and Field Complex. A handful of Cardinals will also be competing at the one-day Trinity Invitational on March 31 at the TU Track and Field Stadium.
THE LAST LAP
Clinton Cole is scheduled to compete in four events at Texas, beginning with the 100m dash and the 4x200, 4x100, and 4x400m relays. His brother,
Isaac Cole, will compete in four events. He will also be a member of the three relay teams at Texas and will run in the 400m at Texas State.
Kentonie Thomas will take part in the three relays at Texas, along with the 4000m DMR. Joining Thomas in the DMR is
Deion Hardy, who is fresh off setting the school record in the 800m last Saturday at UT Arlington. Hardy will also compete in the 4x800m relay and 1500m.
Cameron White and
Uchenna Nnaji are also competing in relays, while
Andrew Leuthner is part of the 4x1 and 4x2 relays and will be one of 116 competitors in the 100m dash.
Busy days for the men at Texas State include
Brek Armstrong, who is slated to compete in the 200m, long jump, and triple jump; and
Desmond Burnett in the shot put, discus, and hammer throw.
On the women's side,
Jane Arinze will take part in four events: the 100m, 4x1, and 4x4 at Texas, and the 200m at Texas State.
Rainy Castaneda will run three races at Texas: 5000m, 3000m Steeplechase, and 4000m DMR.
LaShawnda Simmons will also have a busy day, as she is scheduled to compete in the 100m, 4x1, and 4x4 at Texas.
At Texas State,
Brianna Blagowsky is scheduled to take part in the shot put, discus, and hammer throw, while
Antwanisha Riddle is also scheduled for the three events.
Student-athletes who are redshirting this season, such as
Myah Antwi and
Sarea Alexander, are scheduled to compete at Trinity.
COMING UP
UIW hosts its annual UIW Invitational Friday and Saturday, April 7-8, at Benson Stadium. Tickets are $5 and will be sold at the gate. On Saturday, the Cardinals' five seniors will be honored.
