2015 T&F (Junior):  Castaneda ran limited races during the outdoor season, but she made the most of it.  She earned third team all-Southland Conference honors in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:38.33 and she was fifth in the conference in the steeplechase.  She was seventh at the indoor conference championships in the 5,000 meters when she set the school record with a time of 17:36.21.  During the outdoor season she set school records in the 3,000 meters (10:05.90), the 5,000 meters (17:21.00) and the steeplechase (10:49.39).  She ran the 1500 meters twice during the year and finished second each time.  She won the 5,000 meters at the Kansas Relays and the steeplechase at the Victor Lopez Classic hosted by Rice.  She was named to the Southland Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll.  UIW Female Athlete of the Year.

2014 XC (Junior): Castaneda started with a second place finish in the Alamo City Opener a the Live Oack City Park with a 15:02.39 time that helped the Cardinals win the meet. She barely missed a top ten finish in the OSU Cowboy Jamboree 5k and the UIW Invitational 6k by crossing the line 11th. In the Jamboree, Castaneda had a 19:18.18 time and the Invitational time was 23:48.0. In the SLC Championships, she closed her season in 17th place with a 21:47.3. Castaneda was named to the SLC Commissioner's Honor Roll.

2014 T&F (Sophomore):  Castaneda was named to the Southland Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll.  She did not run during the indoor season, but had a solid outdoor campaign.  She had a pair of top-3 finishes in the 3000-meter steeplechase and finished eighth at the Southland Conference meet.  She won the open 3,000 meters at the UTSA Invitational with a time of 10:45.88.  She is one of only two runners in the program's history to break 11:30 in the steeplechase and she is in the top 10 in school history in the 1500, 3,000 and 5,000 meters.

2013 XC (Sophomore): Castaneda had two top ten finishes as a sophomore. She took first place at the Alamo City Opener 4K after running 14:41.61 and fourth place at the Texas Lutheran Invitational.  Her season was cut short with an injury, but was still able to break 19 minutes in the 5K at the Notre Dame Catholic Championships.  She was named to the Southland Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll.

2013 T&F (Freshman):  Castaneda ran a variety of distance events and did well at each.  She posted UIW top 10 times in the 800, 1500, 5000 and 3000-meter steeplechase.  She won her very first steeplechase race at the IBC Bank Cactus Cup with a time of 12:20.63.  By the end of the year she had lowered her time to 11:29.55, the second best in school history.  She broke 5:00 in the 1500 and nearly hit 18:30 in the 5000 meters.  She was named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll.

2012 XC (Freshman): In her first year as a Cardinal, Castaneda ran in five meets. She had a season best time of 23:42.0 at the UIW 6K and took 11th place. She was named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll and was awarded USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors.

High School: Castaneda was a three-time State qualifier in cross country at Laredo United South High School. She was named the school's Athlete of the Year in 2009 and was a member of the National Honor Society. She was also on the track team.

Personal: Castaneda is the daughter of Jesse and Susie Castaneda and is studying government. She has six siblings: Elizabeth, Kali, Tori, J.D. Liv and Esai. Her full name is Christian Rain Castaneda and she was born on May 3, 1994.
