Conway, AR – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team continues Southland Conference with a three game series against Central Arkansas starting with a double header on Friday at 4 p.m.
Scouting the Cardinals
UIW resumes Southland Conference play after competing in back-to-back games at No. 14 Baylor and ULM. The Cardinals fared well against the nationally-ranked Bears, falling 3-0, while
Bailey Thomas homered in UIW's 6-1 loss at the Warhawks.
On the season,
Danielle Ramirez is leading UIW with a .339 batting average, going 21-for-62 at the plate.
Mikaela Flores is second with a .250 average, while her 10 RBI leads the team. In the circle,
Joanna Valencia leads the pitching staff with a 4.45 ERA, as she is 1-4 with one complete game and 13 strikeouts.
Sarah Leal, who has both of the team's saves, is tops with 28 strikeouts.
Scouting the Bears
UCA is on a five-game losing streak, dropping a three-game conference series at McNeese, then falling at home to both Missouri State and Mississippi State.
Kaylyn Shepherd leads the Bears with a .333 average, going 21-for-68 at the plate. Briana Whisenhunt is hitting .276 and is 10-for-11 in stolen bases. Three Bears have 10 RBI. In the circle, Kayla Gomness is 4-8 with a 3.10 ERA, one save, and 42 strikeouts.
