Women's Tennis Competed On The Cajun Courts Over The Weekend

LAYEYETTE, Louisiana- The University of the Incarnate Word's women's tennis team competed this past weekend in the Ragin Cajun's Invitational.
 
 HOW IT HAPPENED
 
The Ragin Cajuns Invitational began Friday at 9 a.m. with the doubles draw.
 
Victoria Kareh and Sara Djurdjevic fell short in the first round to LU's Vossgaetter/ Jolic 6-4. They moved on Saturday to try and earn a spot in the Consolation final but fell short to SLU's Comejo/ De Veer 6-2 and finished in 7th place after defeating UL's Forshag/ Yatribi 6-3.
 
Jelena Dordan and Alejandra Tamayo teamed up in the first round and defeated Carra/ San Jose of Southland Conference rival, McNeese 6-1.  They moved on to the second round and earned a spot in the Championship after defeating PVAMU's Rhul/ Castellanos 6-2. In the Championship round they fell short against NSU's Iwaniuk/ Castillo 6-1.
 
Zamunik and Sadiq moved pass UL's Drew/ Johnson in a 6-3 defeat as well in the first round. They then moved on to compete against Holtkamp/ Mercier or SLU in the semifinals on Saturday. They defeated them 6-2. But in the championship round on Saturday they lost to the McNeese pair, Brett/ Mastilovic 6-3. 
 
The competition moved to the singles draw Friday at noon, starting with Matea Zemunik. In the first round she lost to NSU's Polinaa Ivanova 6-3, 6-1. In the second round she fell short to UL's Floriane Picaut 6-2,6-2. She had a bye in the third round and finished the competition in 7th place by default.
 
 Jelena Dordan won the first round against USM's Laura Oliviera 6-1, 6-1. In the second round she fell short to USA's Yu Fujioka 6-4, 6-1.
 
Victoria Kareh lost a tough match to Ximena Yanez of SLU in the first round 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. But Kareh came back strong in the second round and defeated UL'S Milena Achlamov 6-4, 6-4 sweep. She had a bye in the consolation final and won by default.
 
Sara Djudjevic won the first round against UL's Marina Rodriguez Garcia 6-1, 6-2. She moved on to compete against SLU's Katya Cornejo in the second round but fell short in a 6-1, 6-3 loss. She competed for third place against Sanja Jolic of UL but fell short 6-3, 1-0 (ret.).
 
Alejandra Landaluce lost her first round against UL's Morgan Forshag 6-1, 6-4. She came back and won the second round against NSU's Kate Avram in a 6-2, 6-3 sweep. But she fell short in the Consolation final against UL's Carla Ortega 6-2, 6-4.
 
Alejandra Tamayo lost the first round against McNeese's Sofia San jose 6-2, 6-2. But bounced back and won the second round against PVAMU's Jimena Duran Castellanos 6-2, 6-0. She went on to win the Consolation final against UIW teammate Rachel Sadiq in a  6-3, 7-5 close game.

The Cardinals will travel to New Orleans, Louisiana, October 6-7 to compete in the New Orelans Invitational.

The women's team will end the fall season in Forth Worth, Texas, to compete in the ITA Texas Regional Championships.
