UIW Outlasts New Orleans for Third Win in a Row

NEW ORLEANS, LA. – The University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team extended its win streak to three matches with a 4-3 victory over the University of New Orleans on Saturday at the Privateer Tennis Center.

Incarnate Word improves to 4-8 overall with a 3-2 mark in Southland play after winning the almost four-hour-long match, while New Orleans falls to 7-6 with a 1-3 SLC record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • New Orleans won the doubles point with victories at Nos. 1 and 2.
  • The Incarnate Word duo of grad student Alexandra Paule Jacqueline Mille, and freshman Amelia Alejandra Perez Corona won 6-1 in the No. 3 doubles contest.
  • The Cardinals opened with two wins to start singles play as senior Iné Lamprecht won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3, followed by a 6-,6-3 win at No. 4 from fellow senior Amelie Montalvo.
  • UNO won in the top two flights, while freshman Victoria Jordana Salcedo Franklin secured a 6-3, 7-5 triumph at No. 5 to set up a deciding match point in the final singles flight.
  • Mille went the distance, needing all three sets to claim a 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 win in the No. 6 singles position and give Incarnate Word the road win.
