Cardinals Battle at Home With TAMU - CC

SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team had its recent three-match winning streak snapped on Saturday morning with a 6-1 loss to visiting Southland Conference foe Texas A&M - Corpus Christi at the Mabry Tennis Center.

Incarnate Word falls to 4-9 overall with a 3-3 record in SLC play, while Texas A&M - Corpus Christi improves to 13-3 on the year with a 3-2 League mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Islanders built a 1-0 lead after taking two of three doubles matches as the duo of seniors Estefania Gonzalez and Iné Lamprecht won 6-2 in the No. 1 doubles position to avoid the sweep.
  • In singles play, Gonzalez was a 6-0, 1-6, 6-1 winner in the first flight to give Incarnate Word its only point of the day.
  • In total, three of the six singles contests went to three sets as the Cardinals battled from start to finish with TAMU - CC.
UP NEXT
The Cardinals will look to bounce back quickly with a home match against the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley on Monday, March 30. The SLC contest is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Mabry Tennis Center.
