SAN ANTONIO – The University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team celebrated Senior Day in exciting fashion with a 4-3 win over Southland Conference foe University of Texas Rio Grande Valley on Monday at the Mabry Tennis Center.

Incarnate Word improves to 5-9 overall with a 4-3 SLC record, while UT Rio Grande Valley falls to 3-13 with a 1-4 conference mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Vaqueros went ahead early with two wins in doubles play for a 1-0 match lead. The UIW duo of seniors Estefania Gonzalez and Ine Lamprecht won their doubles match at No. 1 by a 6-1 score.
• In singles play, UTRGV opened with a win at No. 2 for a two-point advantage before Incarnate Word earned its first point via a 6-3, 6-2 win from Lamprecht on court three.
• Senior Amelie Montalvo evened the match at two points apiece with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 before Gonzalez put the Cardinals ahead on the scoreboard with a 6-3, 7-5 victory in the No. 1 matchup.
• UT Rio Grande Valley responded with a win of its own at No.5, setting up a winner-take-all contest on court six.
• Incarnate Word grad student Alexandra Paule Jacqueline Mille rose to the occasion and won in a thrilling three-set match, registering a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory to give UIW the edge.
