Incarnate Word Upsets NSU on the Road

NATCHITOCHES, LA. – The University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team rallied from a point down to claim a 4-3 Southland Conference road victory over Northwestern State University on Monday afternoon from the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.

Incarnate Word improves to 6-9 overall with a 5-3 SLC record, while Northwestern State falls to 10-7 with a 6-2 conference mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Incarnate Word gained an early 1-0 lead in the match with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, starting with a 6-3 decision on court one by the senior duo of Estefania Gonzalez and Iné Lamprecht.
  • Grad student Alexandra Paule Jacqueline Mille and freshman Victoria Jordana Salcedo Franklin teamed together for a 6-4 win at No. 2 to earn the team doubles point.
  • Singles play opened with a point by the Lady Demons on court three, followed by a 6-2, 6-2 win in the top flight from Gonzalez.
  • Northwestern State took a 3-2 match lead with wins at Nos. 4 and 5 before Lamprecht evened the team total with a 0-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory on court two.
  • In the sixth and final singles contest, Paule Jacqueline Mille went the distance in a 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) win to seal the win for the Cardinals.
  • The win was UIW's second all-time victory over NSU and first since 2023.
UP NEXT
The Cardinals conclude the regular season on Wednesday, April 8, with an SLC contest against Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas. UIW and SFA are tied for fourth in the League standings with the Southland Conference Championships on the horizon.
