The Incarnate Word women's tennis team won their second Southland Conference match in a row, pulling out a 4-3 victory at Nicholls Saturday afternoon.
The win brings the Cardinals' record to 3-8 overall and 2-2 in SLC play.
Incarnate Word earned the doubles point to go up 1-0 after wins at first and second doubles. Luciana Paez and
Amelie Montalvo posted a 6-1 win at second doubles, and
Estefania Gonzalez and
Iné Lamprecht clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory at first doubles.
Up, 1-0, the Cardinals turned their attention to singles play. They earned straight-set wins at fifth and sixth singles, with
Victoria Jordana Salcedo Franklin winning 6-1, 6-1, and
Alexandra Paule Jacqueline Mille winning 6-3, 6-4, respectively.
The remaining four singles matches went to three sets, setting up a thrilling finish. Three of the four matches went in favor of Nicholls, but Incarnate Word only needed one victory to seal the team win. That victory came from the racket of Lamprecht, who, after rallying back from a set down to force a third set, came up clutch with a 7-5 third set to win her third singles match, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 and give the Cardinals the win.
Incarnate Word continues its road trip on Monday, March 23rd, with a match at New Orleans.
