SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word basketball teams conclude their respective regular seasons on Saturday. The women play at Southland Conference rival Houston Baptist University at noon while the men host HBU at 4 p.m.
The UIW women enter their final contest with a 6-22 record, including a 3-14 mark in the conference. They are scoring 58.0 points while giving up 65.0 points per game. Senior
Aricka Adams (Round Rock/Round Rock HS) leads the team with 12.5 points per game and is shooting 41.4 percent from the field.
Brianna Williams (Wylie/Mesquite HS) is scoring 11.4 points per game while
Yvonne Maosa (Arlington/Mansfield HS) is averaging 9.2 points and a team high 6.0 rebounds per game.
Houston Baptist is 13-14 overall with an 8-9 record in the Southland. They are led by Anna Strickland who is averaging 13.3 points and 13.3 rebounds per game. She also leads the team in assists, blocks and steals. Monet Neal gives the team a strong 1-2 punch inside with 12.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Rachel Arthur is the top scoring threat in the backcourt. She is averaging 10.9 points per game while shooting 48.9 percent from the field. HBU won the first meeting between the two teams, 62-61 in San Antonio.
The Incarnate Word men's team is 16-12 with an 11-6 conference record. They have set a school record for most Southland Conference victories. They are averaging 73.1 points per game and are second in the conference in free throw percentage at 76.2 percent. Seniors
Mitchell Badillo (Houston/Cy Falls HS) and
Kyle Hittle (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) will be honored prior to the game. Badillo is averaging 9.8 points and 4.7 assists per game. He is the school's all-time leader in career assists. Hittle has scored at least 20 points in five of his last seven games and is averaging a team high 16.0 points per game while pulling down 6.0 rebounds per game. He has made a career high 69 three-pointers this year.
HBU is 16-14 overall and they are one game behind the Cardinals in the conference standings at 10-7. They are averaging 77.1 points per game and have outscored their opponents by 216 points at the foul line. Anthony Odunsi leads the team with 17.6 points and 3.8 assists per game. He is 223-for-264 from the charity stripe. Colter Lasher and Josh Ibarra are each scoring 10 points per game and Ibarra is the top rebounder with 6.6 per game.
