SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of Incarnate Word softball team is set to host University of North Texas on Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Cardinals Field.
         
The Cardinals (8-13, 2-1) are coming off a big series win against Northwestern State in which they took two of three games from the Lady Demons.  At the plate, UIW is batting .250 and average 2.8 runs per game. Danielle Ramirez (San Antonio/Marshall HS) leads the team in batting average at .357 in 42 plate appearances.  Alex Alonso (San Antonio/Smithson Valley HS) is coming off a big series and she is hitting .291 with a homerun and eight RBI.

In the pitching circle, Bridget Stein (Brenham/Brenham HS) leads UIW with five starts and a 4-3 record with a 5.01 ERA in 36.1 innings.  Sarah Leal (Kyle/Hays HS) has done a great job coming out of the bullpen and she currently leads the team in relief appearances with eight.  She is 3-3 with a 4.39 ERA and leads the team with 36.2 innings.

When the Cardinals host North Texas on Tuesday, it will be the third matchup between the two schools and the all-time series is tied at 1-1. Coming into the game, North Texas will enter matchup with a 13-9 record and they have early wins against Nebraska and #21 Baylor. North Texas is currently on a three game losing streak as they were swept by UTSA last weekend.

At the plate, North Texas is batting .308 as a team to go along with 24 homeruns and 5.1 runs per game.  The Mean Green have five players who are hitting over .300 and they are led by Kelli Schkade who is batting .385 with eight homeruns and 23 RBI. Danielle Gregory is hitting .380 on the season with two homeruns and 11 RBI while Bailey Thompson is third on the team with a .377 batting average.  Leading the Mean Green in the pitching circle is Jessica Elder who is 7-4 with a 3.42 ERA in 71.2 innings.
