SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team will be featured on the American Sports Network on Monday night when they take on Southland Conference rival Stephen F. Austin. The broadcast begins at 6 p.m., live from the Alice P. McDermott Convocation Center.
The Cardinals (15-11, 10-5) are averaging 74.7 points per game on the season while shooting 43.4 percent from the field. Senior
Kyle Hittle (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) leads the team with 15.9 points per game and 63 three-pointers. He is second on the team with 5.9 rebounds per game, 59 assists and 31 steals.
Jontrell Walker (Aurora, IL/West Aurora HS) is scoring 12.3 points per game and leads the nation in free throw shooting, 94.3 percent.
UIW has five players averaging at least 9.0 points per game and they have made over 200 three-pointers as a team.
Shawn Johnson (New Orleans, LA/Alief Hastings HS) leads the team with 6.4 rebounds per game and 31 blocks. Overall, the Cardinals are 9-2 at home this year.
The Lumberjacks (22-5, 15-0) are the only Division I team in the nation without a conference loss this year. They are averaging 79.0 points per game while allowing 63.6 per contest. Thomas Walkup leads the team with 17.0 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 53 steals. Demetrious Floyd and Clide Geffrard are both scoring at least 13 points per contest. Floyd has made 80 three-pointers on the season and is shooting 42.3 percent from long range. Geffrard is second on the team with 6.1 rebounds per game.
SFA won the first matchup between the two teams this year and has won all four meetings between the two teams since the Cardinals joined Division I in 2013-14.
