UIW Welcomes LIU Brooklyn to the Convo Saturday

Cardinals looking to snap a two-game skid

San Antonio, Texas – The UIW men's basketball team hosts LIU Brooklyn for the first time in program history as the Cardinals and Blackbirds tip off at 3 p.m. Saturday from the McDermott Convocation Center. The game will follow the women's 1 p.m. tip against Rice. 

Bring an unwrapped toy to the game for the annual "Blue Santa Toy Drive" to support your San Antonio Police Officers Association.
 
OPENING TIP
 
Saturday marks only the second meeting between the two programs, as they met last season in Brooklyn, with the Blackbirds victorious, 66-59.

Summary: LIU Brooklyn is off to its best start in more than 40 years, dating back to the 1971-72 squad starting its season 7-1. The Blackbirds' third-straight win came against Hartford on the road Wednesday night, 75-68. LIU's only loss has come at Boston University.
 
On the season, three Blackbirds average double figures, led by Jerome Frink's 18.0 points per game. He is followed by Iverson Fleming (12.3), and Jashaun Agosto (10.7). On the glass, Frink is tops with 8.0 rebounds per game. Agosto has dished out 21 assists to lead the team. As a unit, the Blackbirds are shooting 43 percent from the floor while holding opponents to 41 percent.

Summary: UIW came within eight points at Texas Tech Wednesday evening, but the Red Raiders closed the final 13 minutes outscoring the Cardinals, 21-8, to win, 69-48. Jorden Kite scored a career-high 12 points, as he joined Simi Socks for the team high.
 
On the season, Shawn Johnson remains second in the Southland Conference with 19.6 points per game. Jalin Hart is 16th with 13.8 points per contest. On the glass, Johnson is third with 9.0 rebounds per game and T-1st with a 61.1 field goal percentage. Hart is T-1st in assists, dishing out 5.0 per contest. As a team, both the Cardinals and the opposition are shooting 43 percent from the floor.
