UIW Faces Texas Tech on the Road Wednesday

First ever meeting between the Cardinals and Red Raiders on the hardwood

San Antonio, Texas – The UIW men's basketball team will look to rebound after a loss to Rice when the Cardinals play at Texas Tech on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 6:30 p.m. The game will be shown live on Fox College Sports Atlantic, channels 451 on Dish and 608 on DirectTV. Wednesday marks the second Big 12 opponent UIW has faced this season, as the Cardinals opened the season at No. 21 Texas, falling 78-75. UIW is 2-2 on the season, dropping an 87-79 decision to visiting Rice on Nov. 26. The Red Raiders are 5-1 on the season, 4-0 at home.

Summary: Texas Tech went 3-1 at the Cancun Challenge, with the only loss coming to Auburn. The Red Raiders are 4-0 at home, which included a win over fellow Southland foe, Houston Baptist, earlier this season.
 
Four Red Raiders average double digits in points, led by Aaron Ross with 14.8. Keenan Evans (12.8), Anthony Livingston (12.7), and Zach Smith (11.5) round out the foursome. On the glass, Smith is tops with 7.7 rebounds per game. As a team, Texas Tech is shooting 53 percent from the floor compared to 38 percent for the opponents.

Summary: UIW lost its first home game of the season and had its two-game winning streak snapped with an 87-79 loss to Rice on Saturday afternoon. Shawn Johnson scored a career-high 28 points on 9-of-13 shooting, 6-of-8 from beyond the arc, and 4-for-5 from the charity stripe. The six treys were also a personal best and were the most in a single game since Kyle Hittle hit that many against Lamar on Feb. 27, 2016. Johnson registered his second double-double of the season with a team-best 10 rebounds. Simi Socks also set a new career high with 20 points. Jalin Hart chipped in with 14 and Tyler Singleton added 10.
 
On the season, Johnson is second in the Southland and T-23rd nationally with 21.3 points per game. His 9.3 rebounds per game rank him 3rd in the conference and T-48th nationally. Jalin Hart continues to lead the conference with 6.7 assists per game, nearly two assists more than the second-place holder, and T-12th nationally. As a team, the Cardinals are shooting 44 percent from the floor compared to 42 percent for the opposition.

UIW plays three home games in a span of seven days, beginning with LIU Brooklyn on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 3 p.m.
