Box Score PHOENIX, ARIZONA – The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 match against Sacramento State on Friday at Grand Canyon University's soccer field.
The win was the first of the season for Sacramento State. The Hornets (1-3-1) got on the board in the 14
th minute when Brad Kellogg found the back of the net for his third goal of the young 2015 season. The Cardinals took five shots in the half, but were not successful.
The Cardinals (2-2) outshot the Hornets in the second half 8-3, and 13-9 in the game, but could not find the net. In the 62nd minute, Bert Corona increased the Hornets' lead with a shot from outside the box.
With the score 2-0 and only 28 minutes left, UIW had to push offensively if they wanted to get back into the game. They attacked fiercely, taking four shots in the next four minutes and it paid off when they drew a foul in the box. Senior
Noah Keats (Exeter, Eng./The King's School) stepped up to the spot and calmly put the Cardinals on the board.
Vincent Del Curto finished with three saves for the Hornets, while UIW's
Kieran O'Boyle (Blackpool, Eng./St. Mary's Catholic College) finished with four.
The Cardinals will look to bounce back Sunday when they face Wisconsin-Green Bay, also at GCU's field starting at 2 p.m.
