SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word Softball team will be hosting the Nicholls State Colonels for a three game series starting on Friday. The teams were originally scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday, but that has been moved to Friday due to weather concerns. They will start at 1 p.m. on Friday and play the final game at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
The Cardinals (8-29, 2-13) earned two wins against Abilene Christian at home and continued on the winning path with two more victories on the road against non-conference opponent, Prairie View A&M on Tuesday. After 14 consecutive losses, the Cardinals have now won four straight games.
Senior
Taylor Johnson (Schertz/Clemens HS) has taken the lead for the Cardinals on offense. She is currently on a 15-game hitting streak and leads the team with a .382 batting average, 26 runs and 11 stolen bases.
Alex Alonzo (San Antonio/Smithson Valley HS) lead the team with 17 runs batted in and cracked her first homer of the season against PVAMU.
Brooke DuBois (Pearland/Pearland HS) exploded at the plate this week in a doubleheader against the Panthers hitting three home runs and driving in 10.
Kristin Hebert (Humble/Atascocita HS) leads the pitching staff with a 5-13 record and a 4.20 earned run average in 116.2 innings.
The Colonels (8-7, 22-15) are currently in sixth place in the Southland Conference. The Colonels' Hannah Haydel is posting a 2.46 ERA and a 12-6 record in the pitching circle. Brooke Morris leads the offense with a .376 batting average and 31 runs scored. Haley Stevenson is hitting .373 with 10 extra base hits and 21 driven in. Kayla Prater has smacked six triples and has 33 RBI's.
