SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team will close out their home schedule on Wednesday when they take on Prairie View A&M in a 1 o'clock doubleheader at Cardinals Field.
The Cardinals (10-36) are 5-9 at home this year and they swept the Panthers on the road in a doubleheader earlier this season. UIW is hitting .244 as a team and have three players hitting over .300.
Taylor Johnson (Schertz/Clemens HS) leads the team with a .339 average, 27 runs and 11 stolen bases.
Shelbi Swenson (Elgin/Elgin HS) is hitting .323 with four homers and 15 RBI's while playing excellent defense at third base.
Danielle Ramirez (San Antonio/Marshall HS) is hitting at a .313 clip and has eight stolen bases in nine attempts.
Kristin Hebert (Humble/Atascocita HS) and
Brooke DuBois (Pearland/Pearland HS) have been UIW's main pitchers this year and both have pitched much better over the second half of the season. Hebert is 5-17 with a 4.77 earned run average and 15 complete games. DuBois is 5-11 with a 5.25 ERA and eight complete games.
The Panthers (9-23) are hitting .300 as a team, but have a 6.93 team earned run average. Destinee Williams leads the offense with a .392 batting average, five home runs, 26 RBI's and 13 stolen bases. Jazmine Hicks has also been dangerous at the plate with a .372 average, 21 runs and nine doubles. The team has five pitchers who have started at least four games this year. Olivia Lacewell leads the team with three wins while Jessica Long leads the team with 46.1 innings pitched.
