SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team will play a non-conference doubleheader against Texas Southern University on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Cardinals Field.
The Cardinals (3-26) have only played three games at home this year and the doubleheader will be their first non-conference home games.
Alex Alonzo (San Antonio/Smithson Valley HS) is hitting .302 for the Cardinals with a team high 11 RBI's and eight walks.
Taylor Johnson (Schertz/Clemens HS) is hitting .283 with 13 runs scored and eight stolen bases.
Kristin Hebert (Humble/Atascocita HS) has been the team's top pitcher with a 2-11 record and a 4.95 earned run average.
The Lady Tigers (9-11) are hitting .305 as a team this year and are scoring 5.5 runs per game. Thomasina Garza and Chelsea Guenther are each hitting over .400. Garza is hitting .453 with seven doubles, five homers and 25 RBI's while Guenther is hitting .444 with six doubles. TSU has used six different pitchers this year with Sammantha Jimenez pitching the most innings while Jasmin Fulmore has had the most success. Jimenez is 3-4 with a 5.21 ERA in 45.2 innings of work. Fulmore is 3-1 with a 3.04 ERA in 23.0 innings.
