UIW Track Sends Large Contingent to Texas Relays

With more than 7,000 entries in this year's meet the action will be packed all week long at the meet. The Texas Relays is one of the longest running track and field meet in the nation and regularly brings some of the top talent in the sport to compete.

This year's meet features multiple Olympians, including Texas alumni Leo Manzano and Trey Hardee. Members of the Japanese National team also will be in Austin for the 88th edition of the Texas Relays.

Tickets are available for individual days or session passes through the UT Athletics Ticket Office. Fans can call 512-471-3333 or go to TexasSports.com. Tickets can also be purchased at the ticket window at Myers Stadium. Entry on Wednesday and Thursday is free.

The Cardinals have 11 athletes competing in individual events and six relay teams running in the 88th edition of the Texas Relays.  On Thursday afternoon, Charles Hall and Randalle Williams-Diaz will be running the men's 400-meter hurdles and Zariah Noyola is entered in the women's 400-meter hurdles.  Hall and Noyola both were top eight finishers at the Southland Conference meet last year in the event.  The women's 4x800-meter relay team will also be running in the afternoon.  In the evening, Emma Jewell will take aim at her own school record in the 3000-meter steeplechase.

Friday will be a busy day for the Cardinals.  The prelims of the 100-meter dash and 100/110-meter hurdles start in the morning.  Jordan Epps and Chris DeWitt are running the 100 dash for the men while Courtney Miller, Shaneve Swift and LaShawnda Simmons are running the same for the women.  Douglas Bradshaw and Williams-Diaz are each running the men's 110-meter hurdles while Noyola and Spring Lucky-Dania are entered in the women's 100 hurdles.

The majority of relays are also on Friday.  The men's and women's 4x100 and 4x400 teams will be competing in the morning while the women's distance medley team will take the track on Friday night as the final competitors for the Cardinals.

UIW has a busy weekend of track and field action in store.  In addition to the Texas Relays, the multi-event athletes will be competing at the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Texas State on Thursday and Friday.  The rest of the team will be competing at the Trinity Tiger Relays on Friday.
