SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team will host their first home game of the season against the Lamar Cardinals this weekend.  A doubleheader will be played on Friday with the first game starting at noon.  The Southland Conference series will conclude with a final game on Saturday at noon.

UIW (3-20, 0-6) is still looking for their first conference win of the season after getting swept by Northwestern State and Southeastern Louisiana.  The Cardinals lost three straight one-run game to the Lions last week.

UIW is hitting .236 as a team this year and they are scoring less than three runs per game.  Danielle Ramirez (San Antonio/Marshall HS) leads the team with a .333 batting average while Alex Alonzo (San Antonio/Smithson Valley HS) has been the team's most productive hitter.  Alonzo is hitting .300 with three doubles, nine RBI's and a .396 on-base percentage.  Taylor Johnson (Schertz/Clemens HS) leads the team with 12 runs and five stolen bases.  Kristin Hebert (Humble/Atascocita HS) has been the top pitcher for the program with a 2-8 record and a 5.38 earned run average.

The Lamar Cardinals (13-11, 6-0) are undefeated in conference, along with Southland leaders Central Arkansas, McNeese State, and Northwestern State. They are hitting .303 as a team and have outscored their opponents by 34 runs.  Stephanie Meeuwsen leads the team with a .400 batting average and a .543 slugging percentage.  Casey Cromwell and Shannon Sain are the big power hitters on the team.  Cromwell is hitting .384 with five home runs, 17 RBI's and a .658 slugging percentage.  Sain is hitting .371 with 10 doubles and 23 RBI's.  The top pitcher on the team is Laura Napoli who is 9-6 with a 3.06 earned run average.
