NATCHITOCHES, LOUISIANA – The University of the Incarnate Word baseball team dropped the second game of a three-game Southland Conference series to McNeese State on Saturday, 16-7 at Cowboy Diamond.
The Cowboys (13-6, 4-1) erupted for 16 runs on 15 hits and capitalized with 10 runs in the bottom of the third inning. Andrew Guillotte started the inning with a solo home run to left field and the offense kept rolling. They collected seven hits in the inning and faced three Cardinals pitchers. Guillotte finished the game with three hits, three runs scored, three RBI and was a triple short of the cycle. James Cantu, Billy Sommers and Matt Gallier each collected two hits for the Cowboys. Every offensive player for the Cowboys collected an RBI on the day and they hit three home runs as a team.
The Cardinals (7-12, 1-4) found themselves down 12-0 after three innings, but did not give up.
Blake Woosley (Corvallis, OR/Philomath HS) hit a double in the top of the fifth and later scored the first run for UIW on a balk.
Jesse Hoover (Marion/Marion HS) then hit an RBI single to score
Aaron Warren (Schertz/Warren HS) and made it 12-2. They scored seven runs in three innings and made it 14-7 before the Cowboys scored two more in the last two innings to put the game away.
Christian Divelbiss (Yuba City, CA/Yuba City HS) led the Cardinals with a four-hit performance. He hit three singles, a triple, scored once and collected two RBI and is now 13 for his last 24. Woosley and Hoover each added two RBI, while
Ethan McGill (Penn Valley, CA/Nevada Union HS) and
Brance Kahle (Colleyville/Grapevine Faith HS) added two hits apiece.
Bryce Kingsley started the game for the Cowboys and got the win. He worked 4.2 innings and gave up six hits, two runs and struck out two. The Cardinals bullpen used six pitchers in their second loss of the weekend and
Brandon Anderson (Cheyenne, WY/Cheyenne Central HS) got tabbed with the loss for the Cardinals.
The third game of the series is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start on Sunday.
