SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – After playing four games in four days at the Irish Alamo Invitational over the weekend, the University of the Incarnate Word baseball team is back in action on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Roadrunner Field.
The Cardinals (4-4) are hitting .275 as a team this year and are averaging a little over five runs per game. Shortstop
Matt Morris (Scottsdale, AZ/Saguaro HS) is the top hitter on the team with a .429 batting average, .568 on-base percentage and a .750 slugging percentage. He has scored eight runs and leads the team with two homers and six RBI's.
Ethan McGill (Penn Valley, CA/Nevada Union HS) is hitting .345 and leads the team with four doubles.
The Cardinals have played excellent defense with a .967 fielding percentage and four double plays. The pitching staff has a 4.89 earned run average, but more than half of the runs allowed came in two games.
Garret Cooper (Round Rock/McNeil HS) and
Brandon Anderson (Cheyenne, WY/Cheyenne Central HS) lead the pitching staff. Cooper is 2-0 with a 1.20 ERA while Anderson is 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA.
Adam Hunter (Yoakum/Yoakum HS) has been the top man out of the bullpen with four scoreless appearances.
The Roadrunners (5-2) are coming off a three-game sweep of Bryant and are 5-1 at home this year. They are hitting .272 with seven home runs while scoring over 6.5 runs per game. Kevin Markham is hitting .476 with nine runs scored and a pair of home runs. John Bormann also has a pair of homers and has driven in seven runs batted in. Patrick Herbelin has made three appearances out of the bullpen and is 2-0 with a save in 9.2 innings of work.
UTSA is 9-8 all-time against the Cardinals. The Roadrunners won the only meeting between the two teams last year, 10-4 on March 4.
