SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team will finish up their pre-Christmas schedule on Monday when they host University of North Texas at 2 p.m. at the McDermott Center.
The Cardinals (3-7) have been battling injuries through the first semester and hope to get most of the players back prior to the start of Southland Conference play on January 2. However, the team only had seven healthy bodies for their game at UT Rio Grande Valley on Thursday.
UIW is averaging 55.0 points per game and they have not eclipsed 55 points in their current six-game losing streak.
Brianna Williams (Wylie/Mesquite HS) has been one of the bright spots on the team averaging 12.9 points per game and she has made a team high 15 three-pointers. Senior
Yvonne Maosa (Arlington/Mansfield HS) is coming off a 10-rebound performance and she leads the team with 5.8 rebounds per game.
Melina Merritt (Round Rock/Cedar Ridge HS) leads the team with 31 assists and is shooting 90.5 percent from the foul line.
The Mean Green (4-5) own a win over nationally-ranked Oklahoma earlier in the season and play strong defense. They average 57 points per game and have three players averaging 10 points per game; Candice Adams, Acheil Tac and Kelsey Criner. Tac also leads the team with 7.7 rebounds per game and is shooting 60.7 percent from the field. Criner has a team high 35 assists and 18 steals.
