QUEENS, NEW YORK – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team will get a chance to play on national television on Friday night when they travel to St. John's University.  The game begins at 6 p.m. live from Carnesecca Arena and will be aired on FS1.
The Cardinals (3-5) have yet to pull off a signature win this year after knocking off a few big name schools last year.  The last time UIW was on the East Coast was last year when they defeated Princeton, 79-68 last November.  This year, the Cardinals are averaging 77.5 points per game and have played a pair of ranked opponents in Purdue and Oklahoma.
UIW is led by the duo of sophomore guard
Jontrell Walker (Aurora, IL/West Aurora HS) and senior small forward
Kyle Hittle (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS).  Walker had 28 points in the team's last game and leads the squad with 16.5 points per game and he is tied for the national lead in free throw percentage at 97.1 percent.  Hittle eclipsed 1,200 career points in his last game out when he scored 29 in a loss.  He is averaging 15.1 points per game and is shooting 41.9 percent from three-point range.  The team is only shooting 41.5 percent from the field, but they own a strong +5.9 turnover margin.
The Red Storm are 7-3 overall and looking to improve to 7-0 at home for the first time since 2008-09.  Federico Mussini and Durand Johnson lead the team's offense with 14.3 and 11.0 points per game, respectively.  Their strong defense is anchored by freshman center Yankuba Sima who is third in the nation with 3.6 blocks per game.  Kassoum Yakwe has recently joined the lineup and has 11 blocks in just four games.  St. John's is a member of the Big East Conference.
Brian Custer and Jim Spanarkel are on the call for FS1's national telecast.  In the San Antonio area the game will be broadcast on the following stations: Time Warner (97), AT&T UVerse (652/1652 HD), Grande (32), DirecTV (219) and Dish Network (150).
