Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PRAIRIE VIEW, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word swept a doubleheader on the road at Prairie View A&M on Wednesday at Lady Panther Park, 10-4 and 5-4.

In the first game, the Cardinals (18-24) jumped out to a 7-0 lead and cruised to the victory.  They pounded out 13 hits, including a trio of home runs.  Brooke DuBois (Pearland/Pearland HS) picked up the win in the circle tossing 4.1 innings while allowing seven hits and three runs.

The Cardinals scored three times in the first inning with two runs coming on wild pitches.  In the fifth inning, they exploded for four runs.  DuBois helped her own cause with a two-run homer and then Christy Trevino followed with a solo shot.  Taylor Johnson (Schertz/Clemens HS) closed out the inning with an RBI single.

The Lady Panthers (7-25) rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Brenicia Woods had an RBI double and Alisa Navarro followed with a two-run homer, but it was not enough.  Brittney Gardner was handed the loss after allowing three hits, three runs and three walks in 4.0 innings.

UIW tacked on insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings.  Katie Helm (New Braunfels/Canyon HS) cracked a two-run homer in the sixth inning.  Johnson led the team with three hits while DuBois, Helm and Kellen Robles (San Antonio/Smithson Valley HS) each had two hits.

In the second game, the Cardinals jumped out to an early lead.  Robles scored on a wild pitch and then Mikaela Flores (Lockhart/Lockhart HS) drove in a second run to give UIW a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

The Lady Panthers tied the game in the bottom of the third inning.  Shonte Lopez came through with a two-out, two-run single to tie the game.  They took the lead in the fifth inning when Woods cracked a two-run homer.

The lead stood until the seventh inning.  Shelby Waltrip (Orangevale, CA/Casa Robles HS) led off with a double and then Danielle Ramirez (San Antonio/Marshall HS) and Robles followed with infield singles to load the bases.  Alex Zepeda's (Sinton/Sinton HS) sacrifice fly made it 4-3 with two outs.  After a walk loaded the bases, Whitney Waltrip (Orangevale, CA/Casa Robles HS) put the Cardinals on top with a two-run double.

DuBois retired the side in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the win for UIW.  She tossed 2.0 shutout innings of relief to earn her second win of the day.

The Cardinals finished the game with 12 hits.  Robles and Ramirez each had three hits in the contest.  The Lady Panthers had 13 hits as Brit Gardner and Woods each had three hits and scored twice.

The Cardinals are back in action on Friday at Northwestern State for a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.
