Box Score SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – Visiting Central Michigan University shut out University of the Incarnate Word on Thursday night in the first game of a four game baseball series at Sullivan Field.
Chippewas (8-9) starting pitcher Jordan Foley was on top of his game for the visitors. He struck out 10 batters with only two walks and four hits allowed in 7.1 innings to earn his second win of the year. Matt Trowbridge pitched the final 1.2 innings to pick up his third save after striking out four of five batters.
"Foley is one of the top three pitchers we have faced this year, but it's not abnormal," said UIW head coach Dan Heep. "He knew what he was doing and once his team got the lead it got a lot tougher to hit him."

Geno Encina (San Antonio/Brandeis HS) also pitched well matching zeroes on the scoreboard through the first three innings, but gave up lone runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take the tough luck loss. He allowed nine hits, three runs and two walks while striking out four in 7.0 innings.
Alex Shaffer (Seattle, WA/Hale HS) tossed two shutout innings of relief to finish it up.
"We knew if they scored three runs we were gonna be in trouble," said Heep. "Our pitchers did a great job, but we are going to have to find a way to start generating some offense. It's going to be a process and we knew that."
The Chippewas had 10 hits in the game led by Adam Collins' 3-for-4 performance that included a two-out, RBI triple in the fourth inning to break a 0-0 tie. It was the only extra-base hit of the game.
The teams will match up again on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. at Sullivan Field before playing on Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m.
