2014 (Sophomore):  Encina earned Southland Conference honorable mention honors and was named to the College Sports Madness Southland second team.  He was the top pitcher on the Cardinals going 7-7 with a 2.64 earned run average in 95.1 innings.  He did not allow more than three runs in any of his final 11 starts of the season.  He tossed a 9.0-inning shutout against New Orleans scattering five hits and two walks while striking out seven.  He finished the season with eight quality starts and went at least 7.0 innings in eight starts.  He struck out a season high eight batters without a walk at Southeastern Louisiana.  He had some bad luck as the team was shutout in three of his starts and scored two runs or less in six of his starts.

2013 (Freshman):  Encina had a very promising freshman season leading the team in innings pitched (75.2) and wins (7).  He was used 12 times out of the bullpen and made 10 starts on the mound.  He tossed a complete game against Colorado Christian striking out a season high 10 batters in 7.0 innings without a walk.  He had a 9-inning complete game victory over Cameron where he allowed seven hits, one earned run and walk walk while striking out nine in a 3-2 game.  He did not allow a run in 10 of his 12 relief appearances and never walked more than two batters in any outing.  He boasted a 4.40 strikeout-to-walk ratio during the season and pitched 5.0 shutout innings in the Lone Star Conference Tournament.  He finished the year with 66 strikeouts and a 3.21 earned run average.

High School:  Encina played baseball at Brandeis High School.  He posted a 6-5 record with a 2.40 ERA as a junior.  He walked 15 and struck out 80 batters in 73 innings.  He also hit .353 with eight doubles and 18 runs batted in.  As a senior, he went 7-3 with a 1.40 ERA and two saves on the mound for Brandeis.  He posted a pair of shutouts and struck out 96 while allowing 12 walks in 70 innings.  He added a .388 batting average, 15 RBI's and two home runs at the plate.

Personal:  Encina is the son of Gene and Rose Encina and is studying communication arts.  He has a sister, Erica.  He was born on July 7, 1994.
