AUSTIN, TX – The University of the Incarnate Word men's tennis team picked up their second straight win on Thursday against cross state rival St. Edward's University.
In their match-up against the SEU Hilltoppers it was only
Leonard Ivic (Podstrana, Croatia/Economic Administration) and
Josip Smoljan (Citluk, Bosnia/Srednja Skola) that won in their doubles match, allowing the hosts to get the first point of the game.
But the Cardinals (2-0) remained strong in the singles, winning #1, #2, #4 and #5 singles in straight sets.
After being absent from their previous contest against St. Mary's,
Jair Assuncao (Londrina, Brazil/ Carmina Grabner) returned for the Cardinals to win 6-2, 6-2 against SEU #1 Pedro Bronstrup.
Sophomore Tucker Browns' (New Braunfels/ New Braunfels HS) hard fought 7-5, 6-4 victory over Patrick Clynes, also added to the total, allowing the Cardinals to take the match and add a second regular season win onto their record.
The Cardinals are back in action on Friday at Laredo Community College at 1 p.m.
