BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA – The University of the Incarnate Word men's and women's swimming & diving teams both lost a dual meet at LSU on Saturday. The men lost, 188-104 while the women lost to the 17
th-ranked Lady Tigers, 203-92. (

The UIW women were led by seniors
Celeste Morgen (San Antonio/Johnson HS) and
Lana Nguyen (Kiev, Ukraine/NPD) as well as sophomore
Daria Makieieva (Mariupol, Ukraine/Olimpic Reserve of Sergey Bubka). Morgen won the 200-yard breaststroke in a season best time of 2:21.62 and also nabbed runner-up honors in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:05.04. Nguyen was dealt her first defeat of the season in the 50-yard freestyle losing by 0.13 seconds with a time of 23.68. She came back in the 100 freestyle with a victory in 52.25.
Makieieva had another strong meet as the team's second best breaststroker behind Morgen. Makieieva was third in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:06.48 and she was second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:25.41. Helping out the team score was
Lauren Peterson (Paradise Valley, AZ/Xavier College Prep) who swam a strong 500-yard freestyle taking second place in 5:16.73.
Claudia Bernier (Cedar Hill/Cedar Hill HS) added a runner-up finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.75.
Connor Hennessy (San Antonio/Business Careers HS) and
David Moore (San Antonio/Marshall HS) continued to shine for the UIW men. Hennessy swam his best time of the year in the 1000-yard freestyle touching the wall in 9:29.48 for the win while teammate
Nathan Coppock (San Antonio/Johnson HS) was second in a season best time of 9:36.14. Hennessy added a third place finish in the 500 freestyle in a time of 4:35.17 that was less than two seconds off the winning time.
Moore continued to show his versatility for the Cardinals. He swam the 200-yard butterfly for the first time this year and picked up a victory in 1:51.69 while teammate
Aaron Moran (Helotes/Brandeis HS) was third in 1:52.89. Moore picked up a second win in the 400-yard individual medley that he swam in 4:01.56.
Both Cardinal teams are back in action December 4-6 at the University of Texas Invitational, the first large meet of the season for the team.
