PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA – The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team head to Pittsburgh, PA for the Duquesne Invitational this weekend. They will take on St. Bonaventure University on Friday at 4 p.m, and Duquesne University on Sunday at 1 p.m.
After a mixed start to their official 2013 season, the Cardinals enter the tournament with a 1-1 record. UIW opened the season with a 1-0 loss at Missouri State and a 4-3 overtime win at Central Arkansas. Junior midfielder
Victor Pinal has been the early season star for the Cardinals with a pair of goals at UCA, including the game-winner.
Alongside Incarnate Word, Howard University and St. Bonaventure University will head to Rooney Field, home of the Duquesne Dukes, for a set of tournament style games that will count toward their final record.
First, the Cardinals will face the Bonnies. The Bonnies have recorded two consecutive wins both with a score of 3-1 to start the season. Senior Nicholas Perillo made the score sheet in both games and the side are feeling positive heading into their third game of the season.
The Dukes have also started the season with a 2-0 record, with home games against Longwood University and Oakland University. They have tallied a total of four goals, making the most of their offensive opportunities, while goal keeper Sam Frymier has made a total of nine saves over both games to post two shutouts.
