The Buffalos (25-16, 11-10) had a nine-run fourth inning and a seven-run fifth innings as they racked up 20 hits, including three doubles and two home runs. This was the worst loss for the Cardinals (25-17, 11-10) since a 28-5 loss to St. Mary's on April 6, 2001.
Matt Redfearn led the Buffalos with four hits and three runs scored while David Hebert and Parker Wood each drove in four runs. Wood and Josh Parsons each hit home runs for the home team. Dylan James notched the victory for West Texas by tossing 6.0 shutout innings while allowing five hits and one walk to go with nine strikeouts.
The Cardinals managed just five hits in the game and also committed three errors.
Jesus Berduzco (Sacramento, CA/Foothill HS) lasted 3.1 innings as the starting pitcher and was handed the loss.
Jordan Littlefield (Marian/Marian HS) was the only player on the team with two hits.
The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 4 p.m.
