ABILENE, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word softball team opens up the Lone Star Conference schedule on the road at Abilene Christian on Friday at 7 p.m.
The Cardinals (9-6) were the Lone Star Conference tournament champions in 2012 and hope to get things started this weekend. UIW is coming off a pair of defeats to St. Edward's on Wednesday, but had been off for 17 days prior to that.
Monica Acuna leads the offense with a .387 batting average and 10 RBI's. The team's top pitcher is
Briana Sanchez who is 5-1 with a 1.71 ERA.
The Wildcats (13-8) are ranked No. 21 in the nation. They have four players hitting over .350 on the season led by Heather Peacock's .387 batting average. Shelby Hall leads the pitching staff with a 5-1 mark and a 0.98 ERA.
After Friday's game, the team's will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
