KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word track and field teams traveled to Texas A&M-Kingsville for their annual IBC Bank Cactus Cup on Saturday. The UIW women finished third while the men finished fifth overall. (

The Cardinal women racked up 12 top three finishes on the day, including two wins in the 19 events.
Daniela Anane-Bediakoh (Brampton, Ont./Texas State) won the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.92 which eclipsed the NCAA Division II provisional mark. She also anchored the 4x100-meter relay team that took second place in a time of 47.59.
Brittney Holcombe (Corpus Christi/King HS) took third in the 100 meters with a time of 12.17. She joined Anane-Bediakoh,
Shaneve Swift (San Antonio/Clark HS) and
Ebony Moore (Round Rock/Round Rock HS) in the 400-meter relay.
Freshman
Rainy Castaneda (Laredo/United South HS) picked up the team's other win with a first place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. In her first career steeplechase race she crossed the finish line in 12:20.63. Teammate
Lindsey Frost (Portland/Gregory-Portland HS) took third in a time of 12:38.24.
Zariah Noyola (Harlingen/South HS) nabbed a pair of third place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles. She team with
Stacy Stanush (La Vernia/La Vernia HS),
Nikki Sanders (Corpus Christi/King HS) and
Jasmine Waring (San Antonio/Randolph HS) for a second place finish in the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 4:02.89.
Marissa Shinsky (Brownsville/St. Joseph HS) had a pair of top-three finishes in the high jump (5-3.75) and pole vault (10-3.25). Swift took third in the 200-meter dash in 25.40 and
Emma Jewell (San Antonio/Taft HS) was second in the 1500 meters in a time of 4:51.89.
Angelo State won the meet with 168.5 points while Texas A&M-Kingsville (139) was second. The Cardinals were third with 133 points.
Senior
Tommy Brown (Schertz/Steele HS) led the UIW men's team with three victories. He won the 100-meter dash in a wind-aided 10.37 and followed it with a 21.73 in the 200-meter dash. His final win came as part of the 4x100-meter relay team. The quartet of
Adan Narvaez (Corpus Christi/Incarnate Word Academy), Brown,
Matthew Harris (Waverly Hall, GA/Harris County) and
Chris DeWitt (San Antonio/Churchill HS) just missed a provisional time of 41.49.
DeWitt added a pair of bronze medals in the 100 and 200-meter dashes. He had a wind-aided time of 10.46 in the 100 and 21.91 in the 200.
Freshman
Jacob Ulbricht (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley HS) was the top field athlete for the Cardinals. He cleared 14-11 in the pole vault to take third place. Harris contributed a third place in the long jump with a wind-aided distance of 21-11.5.
The Cardinals finished in fifth place with 92 points as a team. Angelo State won with a total of 166 points. A&M-Kingsville (109) finished second, A&M-Corpus Christi (104) was third and UT-Pan American (100) took fourth.
The Cardinals are back in action next Friday and Saturday at the UT-Arlington Invitational.
