KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's tennis team picked up an 8-1 victory in their Lone Star Conference opener at Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday. (Box Score)

The Cardinals (3-1, 1-0) jumped out in front of the Javelinas (0-1, 0-1) right from the start.  They won all three doubles matches.  Nicole Karaklis (San Antonio/Laurel Springs) and Malisa Vatanadilok (San Antonio/Bridgeway Academy) teamed together at #2 doubles for an 8-1 win while Taryn Strahl (San Antonio/Churchill HS) and Jennifer Betancourt (Valencia, Venezuela/La Salle Guaparo) cruised 8-0 at #3 doubles.

In singles play, Ivana Katavic (Split, Croatia/Kamen-Sine HS) pulled off a 7-6, 6-1 win over Mariaxi Herrera at #1 singles.  Strahl, Karaklis, Vatanadilok and Betancourt followed with wins at #3-#6 singles, respectively.

The Cardinals are back in action next Friday at Sam Houston State at noon.
