Cardinals Cruise to Win

Box Score SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team improved to 9-1 on the season after a 96-60 win over visiting Open Bible College on Monday night at the McDermott Center.

The Cardinals (9-1) trailed briefly in the first half, but easily handled the Bruins behind strong inside play and a fast-breaking offense.  UIW outscored the Bruins, 66-16 on points in the paint and scored 32 fast break points on the night.  The two halves were nearly mirror images as the Cardinals led 47-30 at halftime and then held a 49-30 advantage in the second half.

The Cardinals shot 54.7 percent from the field, made 5-of-19 from three-point range and were 9-of-14 at the foul line.  Winslo Barry (Nassau, Bahamas/Christian Life Center) led the Cardinals with his first career double-double scoring 15 points, grabbing 12 rebounds and blocking four shots.  Kyle Hittle (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) and Denzel Livingston (Houston/Waltrip HS) each scored 17 points apiece. 

The Cardinals had five players score in double figures and finished with 24 assists in the game.  Mitchell Badillo (Houston/Cy Falls HS) dished out a game-high eight assists.  Anthony Horton (League City/Clear Springs HS) finished with 14 points, six rebounds and four assists in 21 minutes while Justin Philippe (Linden, NJ/Linden HS) added 10 points and eight rebounds off the bench.  UIW grabbed 12 more rebounds and had five fewer turnovers than the Bruins.

Open Bible College shot 31.4 percent from the field, made 7-of-26 from three-point range and went 9-of-11 at the foul line.  Billy Johnson led the team with 24 points, three steals and two blocks.  Trey Lindsey added 10 points and six rebounds.

The Cardinals and Bruins will meet again on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in a rare back-to-back meeting between two teams.
