The Cardinals played the last two games of their eight game home streak on Wednesday afternoon in a double header with the Hilltoppers of St. Edward's University.  UIW won the first game 4-0 and lost the second 4-3. 
 
The first game of the double header looked like it might be a close one, but after the Cardinals made their way onto the scoreboard in the third inning, they never looked back. While UIW only put one run up in the third and none in the fourth, they exploded in the fifth, ending the inning with three more runs. 
 
Although the Hilltoppers managed to get four hits off junior UIW pitcher Briana Sanchez (7-3), they weren't able to get any of those hits in for a run and ended the first game with four hits and one error. 
 
The Cardinals had double the hits of St. Edward's in the first game and ended the game with eight hits to go along with their four runs and zero errors.  Pitching for St. Edward's was senior Paige Sandahl.
 
After a 4-0 win in game one, it seemed nothing could hold the Cardinals back from doing the same in game two. 
 
With three up and three out in the first inning of game two, the Cardinal defense got the game off to a great start. The bottom of the first inning would be even better than the top for UIW.  After their first four batters, the Cardinals had three hits, two runs and just one out.  The Cardinals would end the first inning with those two runs and two players left on base.
 
The second inning didn't have as happy of an ending for the Cardinals. The UIW defense allowed three runs in the inning and when they stepped up to bat, St. Edward's shut them down. The Cardinals learned from their mistakes, however, and kept St. Edward's scoreless through the sixth inning.
 
The Cardinals would tie the it up in the bottom of the third when right fielder Alex Yarbrough advanced to third and home on illegal pitches from Hilltopper pitcher Sarah Debrow.
 
Finding it hard to get on base, much less score, everything ended for the Cardinals when Hilltopper outfielder Emily Mayfield crushed a ball over center field for a one run homer.
 
The Cardinals wouldn't score in the bottom of the seventh and fell to St. Edward's 4-3.
 
The Cardinals hit the road for three games against Cameron this weekend. UIW and Cameron will play a double header on Saturday at 12 p.m. and will play again on Sunday at 12 p.m.
