Coming off three home wins against Eastern New Mexico University, the Cardinals went traveled to Wichita to take on Midwestern State. Although UIW led for most of the game, a bad seventh inning would leave the Cardinals with a 3-2 loss.
UIW got the game off to a good start, scoring a run in both the first and second inning. With a single to left field, right fielder
Alex Yarbrough collected an RBI and drove short stop
Ashley Freeman in for an unearned run.
The second inning had a similar story for UIW. After designated player
Lea Padilla reached first on a fielding error, left fielder
Sarah O'Brien made it home for another unearned run.
UIW pitcher
Briana Sanchez didn't allow a MSU hit until the fourth inning. Even then, MSU wouldn't get themselves on the scoreboard until the bottom of the seventh inning.
A huge homer in the seventh started the Mustang scoring and, with just a 2-0 UIW lead, the Cardinals couldn't keep MSU from scoring two more and ending the game with a 3-2 win in favor of the Mustangs.
UIW out hit MSU with nine hits compared to their eight. The Mustangs also ended the game with three errors, one of which led to a UIW run, while the Cardinals were error-free.
The Cardinals will take on the Mustangs in a double-header tomorrow, March 24. First pitch is set to be thrown at noon.
