The Cardinals improved their record to 6-2 after winning back to back games in a double header against the Dustdevils of Texas A&M International.

In game one of the double header, UIW put up two runs in the bottom of the second inning and was quiet before putting up five more in the sixth.  That was all the Cardinal's needed to seal the Dustdevils' fate.  Going into the seventh inning, junior pitcher Briana Sanchez had set herself up to pitch a no-hitter.  Unfortunately, four hits and an RBI by TAMIU catcher Dominique Salazar took away Sanchez's no-hitter and put the Dustdevils on the scoreboard.

Offensively, right fielder Whitney Waltrip really got things going for the Cardinals with a homer to center field.  This was Waltrip's first home run of the season. 

Dustdevil pitcher Kyndall Reaves pitched 5.1 innings and allowed 10 hits and all seven runs.  Mariena Gallardo finished the game for TAMIU allowing just one hit.

Game two against the Dustdevils went just as well for the Cardinals as game one.  With four runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth, UIW soared to another win over TAMIU.

Transitioning from right field to pitcher, Whitney Waltrip threw all seven innings allowing only one hit and one run.  Offensively, the Cardinals hit great.  Cardinal catcher Shelby Waltrip hit her second double of the season and third baseman Monica Acuna slammed her third home run of the season.

Monica Cavazoa and Katrina Zamorano split the game pitching 3.1 and 2.2 innings respectively.  Cavazoa allowed three hits and four runs while Zamorano allowed two hits and one run.

The Cardinals will play another non-conference double header against St. Edwards in Austin on Saturday.  Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
