SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – A pair of juniors on the University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team were voted to the Capital One Academic All-District VI First Team on Wednesday. Goalkeeper
Jarred Kahan (Houston/Clear Brook HS) and defender
James Nero (Charlotte, NC/Olympic HS) were the two Cardinals honored.
Kahan is in his first year as a starter for the ninth-ranked Cardinals. He is 9-3-1 on the season with a 1.19 GAA and 5.0 shutouts. He has a 3.43 grade point average and is an engineering management major. He has made 36 saves on the year and has a .692 save percentage.
Nero is a third year starter on the back line for the Cardinals. He is a two-time First Team All-Lone Star Conference defender and was named the Preseason LSC Defensive Player of the Year in 2012. He has earned first team all-region honors as a freshman and a sophomore. He has scored one goal this year and is a key reason why the team posted an 11-game winning streak. He has a 3.64 G.P.A. and is studying biology.
Kahan and Nero both advance to the Capital One Academic All-America ballot. In order to be eligible for Academic All-America honors a student-athlete must be in their second year at their current school and have at least a 3.30 cumulative G.P.A. The ballots are voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
