The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team suffered a close loss to visiting Angelo State University on Saturday, 63-57, in a contest where the Cardinals made things tougher on themselves.
A slow start in both halves forced UIW to play catch-up for most of the game (there were 5 tie scores and 10 lead changes) and ASU enjoyed a 10-point lead early. In addition, the Cardinals (8-6 overall, 3-5 in the Lone Star Conference) shot 17-of-27 from the free throw line.
UIW shot 3-of-10 from the charity stripe in the first half, but then bounced back with a 14-of-17 effort in the second frame.
Three Cardinals finished in double-digit scoring, led by Jocelyn Jarmon's 18 points (along with 8 rebounds). Junior guard Katy Cooke scored 13 points and Ifunanya Mora had 11 points with 9 rebounds.
Chloe Wallace scored 7 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.
The score was tied at the 4:10 mark of the second half, 51-51, but a five-point run by the Rambelles and a 12-to-6 finish to the game ended up dooming UIW by the final buzzer.
Incarnate Word will be back in action at the McDermott Center at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 14th against Texas Women's University.
