UIW DROPS LONE STAR GAME ON ROAD

Senior guard Shaun Umeh led UIW with 21 points.

A 10-minute stretch in the second half proved to be the difference Saturday afternoon as Incarnate Word dropped a game at Cameron in Lone Star Conference action.

The final six-point margin for the Aggies in their 68-62 win came about in those 10 minutes.  With the score tied at 40-40 with 13:14 to go, CU outscored the Cardinals 8-0 in the next three minutes.  UIW immediately went on its own 8-0 run over the next four minutes.  Then, Cameron got a 9-0 push in the ensuing three minutes.  That made the score 57-48 with 3:23 to go.

And that was hill the Cardinals could not get over.  The Aggies largest margin of 11 was 65-57 with a minute remaining.  Senior forward Jordan Roddy hit a three and senior guard Shaun Umeh got a layup but it wasn't enough as Incarnate Word (6-6; 2-4) lost its third game in a row to fall to .500 for the year.  The win put Cameron at 7-3 and 4-1 in LSC action.

Umeh led the Cardinals with his season high 21 points.  He also came up with six rebounds and a pair of assists.  The only other Cardinal in double points was senior forward Chris Johnson who finished with 17 to go with his team high seven rebounds.

Next up for UIW after the Christmas break is a December 29 home game against St. Mary's.  Tipoff at the McDermott Center is set for 7 p.m.
