SIX GET LONE STAR HONORS

Safety Devin Haywood led the LSC in interceptions and was voted second team.

With the regular season completed for 2011 football in the Lone Star Conference the league has announced its honors list and six Incarnate Word players are among the elite.

Three of those six Cardinals received places on the second units.  On the offensive side of things senior fullback Donald Geis was second team.  He was joined by teammates Chaz Pavliska and

Devin Haywood both of whom played safety on defense.

The other three UIW players received honorable mention notices.

Running back Trent Rios was honorable mention on offense as was tight end Andrew Mocio.  The lone Incarnate Word player to be honorable mention on defense was tackle Robby Horton.

For Rios, Geis and Mocio, this is the second straight year for them to be voted among the best in the conference.  All three were honorable mention following the 2010 campaign.

On the field in 2011 four teams dominated the league with its nine football-playing members.  And as might be expected those four also had a strangle hold on the awards.  Eighteen players were honored as first team on offense and another 18 on defense.  Among the 36 total first team players just four were not from either Midwestern State, Abilene Christian, West Texas A&M or Texas A&M-Kingsville.
