The University of the Incarnate Word women suffered a Lone Star Conference South division loss on Wednesday night, falling to visiting Abilene Christian University, 74-58, on a night where the Cardinals seemed to eventually run out of gas while dealing with a Wildcat team that shot nearly 50 percent from the floor.
UIW (6-11 overall, 2-3 in LSC divisional play) led the contest at the 18:43-mark in the second half, 30-29, but only got their lead to 40-37 before ACU retook the lead and never looked back, outscoring Incarnate Word 37-18 the rest of the way.
The Cardinals had another double-double from forward Chloe Wallace with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Katy Cooke and Rose Whitehead both scored 13 points (Cooke also had 9 assists).
Abilene Christian had four players in double-digit scoring. ACU shot 29-of-63 for 46% shooting from the floor and, at times, it seemed as thought everything the Wildcats were putting in the air was going in.
UIW only had 8 turnovers, but were out-rebounded 58-to-37. ACU now takes a 7-6 all-time series advantage over the Cardinals.
The Cardinals will be back in action this Saturday against Angelo State at 5:30 p.m.
