CARDINALS HEAD TO TRINITY FOR HARTMAN CUP

The Cardinals will look to bring Trinity's seven-game winning streak to a halt tonight.

The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team will take a short road trip across Highway 281 tonight for a game against Trinity University at 7 p.m.

Tonight's game is the first-ever Gordon Hartman Cup and the winning team will take home bragging rights for an entire year, as well as a trophy.

“We want a lot of our students to come out,” UIW head coach John Smith said. His Cardinals are 3-2-2 on the year and are going up against a Tigers squad that is 7-1-0 and is riding a seven-game winning streak.

Local television stations are already scheduled to appear to do stories on the event and interview players and coaches in the post-game, so a large Red-and-Black turnout will not only give the Cardinals a boost on the field, but it will give the game the atmosphere it deserves.

The event, which will be held annually between the two programs, is named after San Antonio philanthropist Gordon Hartman, who will present the winning team with the Cup after the final horn sounds.
