DAKTRONICS RELEASES MEN'S SOCCER ALL-REGION TEAMS

On the day that the University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team heads out to Wichita Falls for the 2008 NCAA Division II South Central Region Playoffs, the Cardinals received word that three of their players were named to the 2008 Daktronics South Central All-Region Team.

Gil Ben Nachum.
Senior goalkeeper Gil Ben Nachum, junior defender Jamie Scope and sophomore forward Dustin Lemley were all named to the first team after a 13-6 season.

Nachum, a native of Haifa, Israel, helped lead UIW into the post season despite missing some starts due to injury. His personal record was 9-3 and he only allowed 10 goals against the entire season for a 0.68 goals-against average. In addition, he earned seven shutouts.

Scope, who scored the game-winning goal against Newman University in the Cardinals' final game of the season, was a force on the defensive back line that helped Nachum to those seven shutouts. He only had two goals – but both were game-winners. The 0.89 goals-against average that UIW had on the season was a testament to the defense's hard work and solid play all season.

Up front, Lemley finished second on the team in goals (five) and third on the team in points (11) despite missing several games due to injury late in the season. His 18-of-36 shots on goal-to-shots taken ratio made his a threat to put the ball on-net 50 percent of his scoring chances and three of his goals were game winners.

All three Cardinals now qualify to be part of the Daktronics All-American team which will be released later in the year.

The Heartland Conference was well-represented on both the first and second teams. St. Edward's University, had four players on the first team and two on the second while Texas A&M International had two players on the first squad and saw midfielder Greg Mulamba be named the South Central Region Player of the Year.
