CARDINALS COME CRASHING BACK TO EARTH

The Cardinals' win-streak ended Friday, 1-0, to TAMIU.

The Incarnate Word men's soccer team suffered a frustrating 1-0 loss to visiting Texas A&M International University on Friday night, ending the Cardinals' three-game winning streak and ending their unbeaten Heartland Conference record.

International (5-5-2, 4-1-1) withstood 21 Incarnate Word shot-attempts, with Dustdevil goalkeeper Luis Rincon making nine saves for the shutout victory.

On the flip side, TAMIU only had four shots on-goal, but only had to make one count as Soamy Bautista cracked a pass from Roy Hernandez low that beat UIW goalkeeper Ryan Eschenburg in the 61st minute.

The rest of the way, Incarnate Word (6-4-3, 4-1) simply could not find a way to put the ball in the net, blasting shots that just couldn't find a hole.

“It's a tough loss,” Cardinals head coach John Smith said. “Once again we just didn't put away our chances early and they put away their chance.”

Now, the Cardinals must regroup before heading to St. Edward's University for another conference matchup on the 21st at 1 p.m.
